Finish Line Staffing Services
Description
We are hiring on behalf of our client for a Senior Electrical Engineer with deep expertise in embedded systems hardware design, advanced motor control, and FPGA development.
This is a hands-on, design-focused role responsible for architecting and delivering robust embedded and control solutions across a range of complex products and mission-critical systems. The ideal candidate is comfortable owning designs from concept through prototype, testing, and production, while collaborating cross-functionally in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Note: This role requires U.S. work authorization due to access to export-controlled technology. Verification will be required prior to employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop embedded electronic hardware, including mixed-signal PCB design for control, sensing, and power electronics
- Architect and implement advanced control systems, including motor control algorithms (FOC, PID, feedback loops) and real-time sensor integration
- Design motor drive electronics, including power stages, gate drive circuitry, and current/position sensing for BLDC, PMSM, and related motor types
- Develop and debug FPGA-based designs using Verilog, including timing-critical logic and hardware acceleration
- Collaborate with firmware, FPGA, mechanical, and systems teams to integrate electronics into full product architectures
- Perform system-level bring-up, testing, debugging, and optimization of embedded hardware and control systems
- Work with embedded communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, and other industry-standard interfaces
- Develop and validate control algorithms through simulation, analysis, and hardware testing
- Create clear technical documentation including schematics, requirements, design reviews, test plans, and verification reports
- Ensure designs meet safety, regulatory, EMC, and quality standards throughout the product lifecycle
Required Experience
- 7+ years of experience in embedded electrical engineering, ideally within product development or consulting environments
- Strong experience with PCB design (schematic capture, layout oversight, component selection, DFM)
- Demonstrated experience with motor control systems, including field-oriented control (FOC)
- Hands-on experience with FPGA development using Verilog (simulation, synthesis, debugging)
- Proficiency in embedded C/C++ for real-time control applications
- Experience with system-level integration and debugging across hardware, software, and FPGA components
- Familiarity with RTOS concepts and real-time embedded constraints
- Strong understanding of power electronics, signal integrity, grounding, and EMI/EMC
Preferred Skills
- Experience with robotics, electromechanical systems, or motion control applications
- Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink for control modeling and algorithm development
- Experience with wireless communication technologies (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi)
- Knowledge of functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508 or similar)
- Experience supporting products through validation and transition to manufacturing
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- Proven ability to lead technical efforts, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to system architecture decisions
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a hands-on, problem-solving mindset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to participate in technical discussions with stakeholders
- Experience with modern development tools, debugging platforms, version control systems (e.g., Git), and documentation practices
