Description
This position is ideal for a highly skilled machinist with extensive CNC lathe setup and programming experience who can independently take parts from blueprint to finished product while maintaining tight dimensional requirements.
The CNC Lathe Set Up Machinist/Programmer will be responsible for machine setup, programming, tooling optimization, first-article inspection, and supporting efficient, high-quality production.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and program CNC lathes for production and precision machining operations.
- Develop, edit, and troubleshoot CNC programs using G-code and M-code.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
- Select and optimize tooling, speeds, feeds, and machining parameters based on part requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve tooling performance and reduce cycle times while maintaining quality standards.
- Perform first-article inspections to verify parts meet blueprint and dimensional requirements before production runs.
- Monitor machining operations and make necessary adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and repeatability.
- Troubleshoot programming, tooling, setup, and machining issues as they arise.
- Use appropriate precision measuring and inspection equipment to verify finished components.
- Maintain consistent quality throughout machining operations.
- Follow established safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures.
- Maintain an organized and efficient work area.
- Collaborate with production, quality, engineering, and other team members as needed.
- Perform additional machining-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of CNC lathe setup experience required.
- Strong CNC programming skills, including proficiency with G-code and M-code.
- Demonstrated ability to independently set up CNC lathes.
- Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
- Ability to understand and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience performing first-article inspections and verifying dimensional accuracy.
- Strong understanding of tooling selection, machining processes, speeds, feeds, and cycle-time optimization.
- Ability to troubleshoot machining and programming issues.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
