Quality Mechanical Inspector

Position Overview

Monday-Thursday 6 am to 4:30 pm

Finish Line Staffing Services is seeking an experienced Quality Mechanical Inspector to join a precision manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for ensuring machined components and assemblies meet customer, engineering, and internal quality specifications.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with CMM programming and operation, GD&T, blueprint interpretation, and precision measurement equipment. This role will perform first article, in-process, incoming, and final inspections while working closely with production and quality teams to maintain high standards for accuracy and consistency.

Key Responsibilities

Inspection & Quality Control

  • Perform first article, in-process, incoming, and final inspections of precision machined components and assemblies.
  • Operate and program Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs).
  • Use precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, indicators, and optical comparators.
  • Inspect incoming raw materials and components received from outside processing.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, control plans, and customer specifications.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) standards during inspection activities.
  • Accurately document inspection results on travelers, reports, logs, and other quality documentation.
  • Identify and communicate quality concerns and support nonconformance investigations.
  • Assist with efforts to improve first-pass yield and reduce defects.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Support the maintenance of ISO 9001:2015 quality documentation and procedures.
  • Collaborate with quality, manufacturing, and engineering teams to resolve quality issues.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on product quality and inspection processes.
  • Maintain accurate and organized inspection records.

Safety & Workplace Organization

  • Follow established safety procedures and quality standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe inspection area.
  • Ensure inspection tools and equipment are maintained in proper working condition.
  • Report equipment or tooling issues promptly.
  • Contribute to a workplace culture focused on teamwork, accountability, quality, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 5 years of quality inspection experience within a machining or precision manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T and blueprint interpretation.
  • Hands-on experience with precision inspection equipment, including micrometers, vernier calipers, height gauges, and optical comparators.
  • Experience operating and programming CMM equipment.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with production and quality teams.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and quality management system documentation.
  • Experience with data-driven quality or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with surface finish measurement and advanced metrology techniques.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and handle materials weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods while performing inspection activities.
  • Ability to visually inspect small precision components.
  • Ability to operate computer-based inspection and measurement equipment.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills necessary to perform precision measurements.
