Description

On behalf of our client, an innovative leader in the medical device industry we are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer. This role will focus on the architecture, design, and development of advanced electronic systems for medical devices, including infusion pumps, patient monitoring systems, in-vitro diagnostic equipment, energy delivery platforms, and medical robotics.

The successful candidate will be hands-on, detail-oriented, and experienced in embedded systems, mixed-signal design, and safety-critical applications. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to life-changing technologies while working with a collaborative and forward-thinking team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical system design efforts from concept through verification.

  • Define system architectures and hardware design requirements.

  • Perform risk analyses (including FMEA) to ensure compliance with medical device standards.

  • Design and prototype electronic subsystems (e.g., microcontrollers, sensors, motor drivers, power supplies, displays, wireless modules).

  • Provide guidance for mixed-signal PCB layouts.

  • Test and validate prototypes against functional, safety, and performance requirements.

  • Develop diagnostic and test methodologies.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, software, quality, and manufacturing teams.

  • Support design verification, regulatory submissions, and certification activities.

Required Skills & Expertise

  • Embedded Systems: Microcontroller design (ARM/STM32 family, STM32CubeMX configurator).

  • Analog & Mixed-Signal: ADC front-end design (Sigma-Delta), signal conditioning, and sensor filtering.

  • Motor Control: Experience with Trinamic or comparable motor driver ICs.

  • Digital Interfaces: I2C, SPI, UART, RS-232, HyperBus, OctoSPI.

  • Power Systems: Power management, isolation, and sequencing for medical devices.

  • Safety & Isolation: Expertise in noise immunity and patient protection techniques.

  • Design Tools: OrCAD schematic capture, CIP/CIS database; ability to guide PCB layouts.

  • Compliance: Knowledge of IEC60601-1 (safety) and IEC60601-1-2 (EMC); experience with NRTLs for certification.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently and in team environments.

Education & Experience

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering (required); M.S. preferred.

  • 8+ years of experience in board-level and system-level electronics design.

  • Proven track record in the medical device industry (required).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with infusion pump design and development.

Physical Requirements

  • Full wrist, hand, and finger dexterity.

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and stand for long periods as required.
