Our client, an industry-leading energy innovation business, has an immediate opening for a Safety Engineer. This role will work closely with technical staff and the facilities team onsite to identify hazards, develop procedures, and identify and implement solutions to ensure a safe working environment and maintain operations.
Responsibilities:
- Train new recruits one-on-one as well as working with R&D project teams
- Recognize and respond to unsafe conditions
- Maintain records and documentation of procedures and training activities
- Work with laboratory teams to manage chemical inventories
- Run the company’s program for ensuring a safe and efficient working environment
- Lead evaluation of project safety checklists
- Manage HAZOPS analysis program for new test stands
- Purchase safety supplies
- Manage relationships with Fire Department and OSHA
Requirements:
- B.S. in Engineering, or a science and/or a specific safety-related discipline
- At least three years of related experience working in a laboratory environment
- Experience identifying workplace and research hazards, conducting hazard assessments, managing projects, and participating in engineering solutions, particularly with team approaches
- Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., Massachusetts fire prevention regulations and building code, NFPA codes, and OSHA regulations) and general environmental health and safety expertise
- Proficiency with hazard communication and learning/understanding safety information (e.g., safety data sheets)
- Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work alone or within a team fully onsite in a highly research-oriented environment that requires frequent interaction with research and manufacturing staff and management
- Experience in workplace with high quality control standards
- Ability to convey complex ideas to personnel with diverse backgrounds and education experience
- Strong planning and organization skills
- Innovation, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities
- Proficiency with document and data management tools
- Work conditions: working on feet, ascending ladders and stairs, lifting and transporting weights of up to 50 lbs., exposure to hazardous material, and wearing respiratory protection, including full-face respirator
